wARP-Path: Implications of adapting the Ethernet-based ARP-Path bridging protocol to a wireless environment

چکیده
The ARP-Path protocol has flourished as a promise for wired networks, creating shortest paths with the simplicity of pure bridging and competing directly with TRILL and SPB. After analyzing different alternatives of ARP-Path and creating the All-Path family, the idea of migrating the protocol to wireless networks appeared to be a good alternative to protocols such as a AODV. In this article, we check the implications of adapting ARPPath to a wireless environment, and we prove that good ideas for wired networks might not be directly applicable to wireless networks, as not only the media differs, but also the characterization of these networks varies.

Ethernet bridging in campus networks offers advantages like zero configuration, no need of IP addresses administration in subnets, high performance and low costs. But Ethernet bridging does not scale. Current proposals under standardization, like Shortest Path Bridges and Routing Bridges use a link-state routing protocol to compute shortest paths. As a simpler alternative, we propose an evoluti...
متن کاملAll-Path bridging: Path exploration protocols for data center and campus networks
Today, link-state routing protocols that compute multiple shortest paths predominate in data center and campus networks, where routing is performed either in layer three or in layer two using link-state routing protocols. But current proposals based on link-state routing do not adapt well to real time tra c variations and become very complex when attempting to balance the tra c load. We propose...

Multi-path is favorite alternative for sensor networks, as it provides an easy mechanism to distributetraffic, as well as considerate fault tolerance. In this paper, a new clustering based multi path routingprotocol namely ECRR (Energy efficient Cluster based Routing algorithm for improving Reliability) isproposed, which is a new routing algorithm and guarantees the achievement to required QoS ...
متن کاملAll-Path Routing Protocols: Analysis of Scalability and Load Balancing Capabilities for Ethernet Networks
This paper presents a scalability and load balancing study of the All-Path protocols, a family of distributed switching protocols based on path exploration. ARP-Path is the main protocol and it explores every possible path reaching from source to destination by using ARP messages, selecting the lowest latency path. Flow-Path and Bridge-Path are respectively the flow-based and bridge-based versi...
متن کاملAll-path: Finding Simply Fastest Path and Balancing Load by Flooding ARP Packets as Path Probes
Shortest path bridging overcomes the limitations of the spanning tree protocol in switched networks. Dominant approaches like Shortest Path Bridges (IEEE 802.1aq) and TRILL (IETF) Rbridges add a link state routing protocol in layer two to compute shortest paths between bridges, but these paths are shared by multiple hosts. Balancing the load at links requires complex equal cost multipath comput...
